Mātei dažādu iemeslu dēļ nākas atslaukt krūts pienu: māte ir spiesta aiziet, atgriezties darbā, kādu iemeslu dēļ nevar barot bērnu ar krūti, laktācijas laikā māte var saslimt un ir spiesta lietot medikamentus. Šajā gadījumā palīdzēs iepriekš izspiestais un uzglabātais piens. Var būt nepieciešama arī atslaukšana, lai palielinātu piena ražošanu (uzlabotu laktāciju).
Krūts barošana ir labākais veids, kā pabarot bērnu, jo mātes pienā ir visvairāk uzturvielu, kas bērnam nepieciešamas pareizai attīstībai. Mēs nedrīkstam atteikties no mātes piena, pat ja nevaram pabarot bērnu tieši. Lai atslaucētu pienu no krūts, vajadzīgs piena sūcējs (laktators vai pumpis). Šis ir ideāls risinājums, kas darbosies daudzos gadījumos. Ir vairāki laktatoru veidi, tie var būt manuālie-darbināmi ar roku vai elektriskie, darbināmi no tīkla vai baterijām.

1. Retai un neregulārai atslaucēšanai ir piemērots manuālais piena sūknis.
2. Biežai un regulārai sūknēšanai labāk pievērst uzmanību elektriskajiem modeļiem.
3. Tālāk ir vērts noskaidrot, vai laktators ir divfāžu. Tieši šie modeļi pēc sava darbības principa ir maksimāli pietuvināti bērna zīdīšanai, kas nodrošina ērtu un veselīgu sūknēšanu.
4. Ir svarīgi, lai krūts sūknim ir aprīkojumā uzgalis no mīksta silikona uz piltuves. Šāds elements nodrošinās visērtāko un ciešāko piegulšanu krūtīm, kas radīs vakuumu efektīvai sūknēšanai.
5. Ir arī svarīgi, lai sūknis lietošanas laikā neizraisītu sāpes krūtīs.
