How should a baby gain weight in the first year? Monitoring the height and weight parameters of an infant is essential for assessing the health of the child. From the first days of life, one of the most important parameters that affects the diagnosis of the infant's health is his weight. We can talk about the harmonious development of babies when weight gain is directly proportional to growth. It should be remembered that these parameters depend on the individual genetic predisposition of infants. In addition, how the child is fed is also important.
How to check if your child is gaining weight correctly? When assessing the health of an infant, the doctor takes into account the so-called development curve (diagram) and the index percentile method. All deviations from the norm are carefully monitored.
To control the weight of a child at home, it is worth purchasing scales. Baby scales are a device with which we can conveniently and quickly weigh the child and then compare the result with generally accepted standards. The weight gain of a child in infants is up to 200 g per week, and it should not be less than 150 g. Starting from the 5th month, this increase is approximately 90-150 g per week, then gradually decreases. In the first year of life, the baby gains an average of about 7 kg. Abnormal weight is often associated with diseases such as infections or anemia. Undoubtedly, the baby's weight affects the development of gross motor skills. Undesirable phenomena are both malnutrition and overfeeding of the child. Food allergies or metabolic problems often contribute to pathological weight gain in infants. The method of feeding a child is an individual process and depends on many factors, including: the psychophysical state of the mother and the medications she takes, the tolerance of baby food, the baby's diseases and ailments, the child's weight, the child's individual preferences, and medical recommendations. A visit to the doctor is undoubtedly necessary if the child's height or weight does not meet the norm.
